New Evidence about Historical Photographs of the Holodomor

On December 10, 2019, members of the teaching staff of the Department of History attended the workshop «Seminarium» on the topic «Historical Photographs of the Holodomor: Discovery, Attribution, and Interpretation».

At the workshop, leading experts from the Institute of History of Ukraine of the National Academy of Science of Ukraine and the Taras Shevchenko Institute of Literature of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine spoke about the revealing of the Holodomor photos, their attribution and verification; places, conditions of storage, correct and incorrect subtexts of photographs from the collections of Alexander Wienerberger, Mark Zaliznyak, Mykola Bokan; photographs and memoirs of photographer Mark Zalizniak about the Holodomor; the publication of photographs of the Holodomor abroad in the 1930s; deliberate and non-deliberate falsification of photographs of the Holodomor: examples, reasons for the distribution of false attributed photographs.

«Seminarium» workshops are co-organized by the Ukrainian Research and Education Center for Holodomor (HREC in Ukraine), the Institute of Ukrainian History, the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory, the Holodomor Research and Education Consortium (HREC, Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies, University of Alberta).
