23rd Annual student scientific conference «Ukraine: History, Culture, Memory»

On December 6, 2019, Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute hosted 23 annual student scientific conference «Ukraine: History, Culture, Memory», which was organized by the Department of History.

At the plenary session, which was dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the birth of Igor Sikorsky, the participants of the conference discussed the contribution of the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute to the emergence and development of aircraft engineering. The student reports were devoted to the emergence of aeronautics and aeronautical engineering in the late of XIX – at the beginning of XX century, the impact of the First World War on the development of aircraft construction, the contribution of professors and students of the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute to the emergence of aeronautics, life and engineering achievements of Igor Sikorsky, the role of Kyiv Polytechnic Institute in the development of space industry in the Soviet Union, the scientific potential of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute in the development of the aerospace industry of current Ukraine. The participants also watched several videos related to the life and career of Igor Sikorsky. The audio track of one of the videos was voiced by Igor Sikorsky.

Breakout sessions deal with various topics and problems related to the history of Ukraine in ethnic and ethnopolitical dimension, history of state-building and law-making in Ukraine, the role historical figures in the history of Ukraine, history of Ukrainian culture, history of science and technology.

The student history seminar titled «Relations between Ukraine and Finland: history and current situation» took place within the framework of the conference. It was organized by the joint efforts of the Department of History and Society «Ukraine-Finland» on the occasion of Finland’s Independence Day.

Students of Kyiv Polytechnic Institute participated in that conference. They prepared reports and delivered them during plenary and breakout sessions. Many presentations were accompanied by multimedia presentations. Due to participation in this conference students gained hands-on experience in writing conference proceedings as per the principles of academic integrity, and improved the skills of public presentations and speaking.
